nVidia Tegra APX2600

Slika

Fill-Rate: 600M
Poly/sec: 40M

Strong Side: High performance GPU with featuring up to 5x anti-aliasing with 8x anisotropic filtering.

Weaknesses: ARMv6-based CPU. Coupled with a dual-core Cortex A9 supporting TBR (Tile based rendering). Tegra 2 is believed to be the next generation smartphone SoC.

Broadcom BCM2727

Slika

Fill-Rate: Currently Unknown.
Poly/sec: 32M

Strong Side: Rumored to have outstanding performance, it’s single-handedly powering the Nokia N8.

Weaknesses: Like the Tegra, been coupled to an ARM11 CPU. Still the performance has to ascertained with newer chip-sets and smart-phones.

Qualcomm Adreno 200 ( Formerly, ATI Imageon)

Slika

Fill-Rate: 133M
Poly/sec: 22M

Strong Side: Quite Cheap.

Weaknesses: Performance is lower than even mainstream SoC’s. Most of the SoC’s integrate Adren 200 OC’d to more than 600 MHz. Instead the next iteration Adreno 205 is 2x faster than Adreno 200.

NEC PowerVR SGX530

Slika

Fill-Rate: 500M
Poly/sec: 14M

Strong Side: Tile-based rendering supported and outstanding fill-rate made this an all-around performer.

Weaknesses: Introduced in Android handsets after Apple’s iPhone 3Gs got PowerVR SGX535.

NEC PowerVR SGX535

Slika

Fill-Rate: 1G
Poly/sec: 14M

Strong Side: Tile-based rendering supported and huge fill-rate. Doubling the fill-rate over the 530 allowed the 535 to handle UI interaction more fluidly, and apply more real-time effects to games.

Weaknesses: Weak geometry performance.

NEC PowerVR SGX540

Slika

Fill-Rate: 1G
Poly/sec: 28M (as per NEC Specification)

Strong Side: Tile-based rendering supported and huge fill-rate plus very high real-world polygon performance.

Weaknesses: Samsung claimed 90M polys/sec in its new smart-phones Wave and Galaxy S models, totally incorrect. The number was drawn by benchmarks where CPU and GPU (Hummingbird SoC) performed when coupled together.

NEC PowerVR SGX545

Slika

Fill-Rate: 1G
Poly/sec: 40M

Strong Side: Tile-Based rendering supported with Boosted geometry performance over the 540.

Weaknesses: Unknown.

ARM Mali 400 MP

Slika

Fill-Rate: 1.1G
Poly/sec: 30M

Strong Side: Advanced tile-based deferred rendering and local buffering of intermediate pixel states, Implemented in the ARM11(TM) MPCore and Cortex(TM)-A9 MPCore multicore processors, designed to reduce system bandwidth, optimize performance and reduce power consumption. 4xMSAA and 16xFSAA using rotated grid multi sampling outperforming all other GPU’s till date. Mali-400 is a direct competition to Nvidia Tegra 2.

Weaknesses: Unknown.
